CELESTIAL LOVE
Micki Pellerano
May 15 - June 6, 2015
In Celestial Love masterful works in graphite detail the human form in states of corruption, dissolution, and regeneration set upon obliterated fields of imaginative processes. The fibrous nature of space and time are rendered in carefully wrought textures of light, mineral, hair and shadow, influenced by the artist's studies in philosophy and transcendentalism. Much like the metamaterials fabricated in today’s laboratories - where sheets of graphene birth substances with properties best described by words of magic - the tradition of drawing, with its precision-oriented application of graphite, manifests empyreal planes upon simpler scaffolds. Pellerano's works denote material reality as the pivotal host to the stages of suffering and bliss required for psychic and cultural transmutations.
Micki Pellerano is a Cuban-American artist working in draftsmanship, performance and film. His work is informed by studies in experimental theater at New York University and his scholarly accomplishments in Western Esotericism.
Praised by the New York Times as a ‘gifted young Post-Neo Symbolist,’ Pellerano’s work has exhibited widely in institutions including MoMA PS1,The Brooklyn Museum, The Museum of Art and Design, The Norton Museum of Art, the Perth International Arts Festival, and the Galleria Comunale in Monfalcone, Italy.
Selected additional publications include The New Yorker, Vice Magazine, Zing Magazine, Jalouse and Bomb; as well as Printed Matter and Disinformation anthologies. His extensive work in music video has been featured by Interview Magazine, Pitchfork Media, Stereogum, and The Quietus.
Pellerano lives and works in Brooklyn.
