Kristin Smallwood
August 11th -  September 11th, 2016

American Medium is proud to present Kristin Smallwood’s first solo exhibition in New York, IUD. The exhibit brings together a new body of work, including paintings, sculptures, and video. Using satire, allegory, and provocation as her tools, Smallwood investigates our relationship to the female body, the male-centric modes of birth control, and how the female body is minimized in stature by the ogling eye.

“IUD is about sacrificing your mind and body for anything and everything related to reproduction, love, and destruction. This is an intercourse of ideas around inherent misogyny in our society. It is an expression of what it feels like to be walked on mentally and physically by other humans and by devices such as birth control.”

Kristin Smallwood (b. 1984, Camarillo, California) is a multimedia artist who received her BFA in Intermedia from the Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) in 2011. Her work focuses on sexuality, humor, and the objectionable.
